Maverick then messes with the other MiG, flies upside down, and flips the bird at him while Goose takes his picture and they scare him off and he leaves Cougar alone. Two MiG-28s jump them and Maverick scares one of them off the other MiG gets on Cougar's tail and gets a radar lock on him. Andy has become comfortable with his position in the prison and the library, but he also feels trapped by the exploitative and dehumanizing nature of the institution, thus leading to one last defiant glimmer of hope for his fellow inmates - an expert of an opera. At this point in Shawshank Redemption, hope has waned for the characters, both inside the prison for Andy and outside of its confines for Brooks.
